Gytheio

Also known as Gythion, Gytheion

Gytheio is a port town in Laconia, southern Greece, on the Laconian Gulf at the entrance to the Mani peninsula. In antiquity it was the port of Sparta. The Frankish castle of Passavant (Passava) was built nearby in the 13th century, and in the 19th century Gytheio became the main harbour of the Mani.
