Grand Magne

Also known as Maina Castle, Castle of Grand Magne, Maina castle

The Castle of Grand Magne was a fortress built around 1248 by William II of Villehardouin, Prince of Achaea, on the Mani peninsula in the southern Peloponnese, to control the local Slavs and Maniots. After his capture at the Battle of Pelagonia in 1259, William ceded it with Mistras and Monemvasia to the Byzantines in 1262 as his ransom. Its probable site is at Cape Tigani in the Mani.
