Habsburg Castle

c. 1020–1030 · 11th century · Also known as Habichtsburg

Habsburg Castle is a medieval castle on the Wülpelsberg near Brugg in the Swiss canton of Aargau, built around 1020–1030 by Count Radbot and, according to tradition, Bishop Werner of Strasbourg. Its name, from Habichtsburg ('hawk's castle'), was taken by Radbot's descendants, the Habsburg dynasty. The family left it in the 13th century, Bern took it in 1415, and part of it survives.
