Hans Waldmann

c. 1435–1489 · 15th century

Hans Waldmann was a Swiss military commander and Mayor of Zürich from 1483. He fought with distinction against Charles the Bold of Burgundy, notably at Morat in 1476, and made Zürich a leading power in the Swiss Confederacy. His heavy-handed rule and restrictions on the countryside provoked a revolt in 1489, and he was tried and beheaded.
