Heitersheim

Heitersheim is a small town in the Markgräflerland of Baden-Württemberg, south-west of Freiburg im Breisgau. The Knights Hospitaller held it from the 13th century, and from 1505 it was the seat of their Grand Prior of Germany, who ruled it as a small principality of the Empire until Baden annexed it in 1806. The priors' castle survives, and a large Roman villa has been excavated nearby.
