Henric van Veldeke

c. 1150 – after 1184 · 12th century · Also known as Heinrich von Veldeke

Henric van Veldeke (c. 1150 – after 1184) was a poet from the County of Loon, near Maastricht, who wrote in an early Limburgish form of Dutch. His Eneasroman, a courtly adaptation of the French Roman d'Eneas completed in the 1180s for the Thuringian court, was regarded by later German poets as the beginning of courtly literature in German. He also wrote love lyrics and a life of Saint Servatius.
