Hasselt is a city in Belgium and the capital of the Flemish province of Limburg, on the Demer. A town of the County of Loon, it passed with the county to the prince-bishops of Liège in 1366 and became one of their 'good towns'. It grew as the provincial capital in the 19th century and is known for jenever distilling.
