Herod Agrippa I

c. 11 BCE–44 CE · 1st century · Also known as Agrippa I

Herod Agrippa I was a grandson of Herod the Great, raised in Rome and a friend of the emperors Caligula and Claudius. Caligula gave him the former Tetrarchy of Philip with the title of king in 37, and by 41 Claudius had added Judaea and Samaria, reuniting his grandfather's realm. He died suddenly at Caesarea in 44, and Judaea returned to direct Roman rule.
