Sea of Galilee

The Sea of Galilee is a freshwater lake in the northern Levant, fed by the Jordan River. In 1187 Saladin's forces manoeuvred the Crusader army into waterless terrain nearby and denied it access to the lake. Accounts of the Ayyubid Empire describe the resulting Battle of Hattin as a total Ayyubid victory that opened the way to the recapture of Jerusalem.
