Herrnhut

1722 · 18th century

Herrnhut is a small town in Upper Lusatia, Saxony, founded in 1722 by Protestant refugees from Moravia on the estate of Count Nikolaus Ludwig von Zinzendorf. It became the centre of the renewed Moravian Church, whose missionaries spread worldwide. The Moravian 'Daily Watchwords' have been published there since 1731, and the town is known for its star-shaped Advent lanterns.
