Hitler Youth

1926–1945 · 20th century · Also known as Hitlerjugend

The Hitler Youth was the youth organisation of the Nazi Party, founded in 1926. After 1933 rival youth groups were banned, and from 1939 membership was compulsory for boys aged 10 to 18, while girls joined its branch, the League of German Girls. It trained young people in Nazi ideology and military skills, and in the last months of the war many of its members were sent into combat.
