1787–1790 · 18th century

The Host of Loyal Zaporozhians was a Cossack army formed in 1787 by Grigory Potemkin from former Zaporozhian Cossacks, whose Sich had been destroyed by Russia in 1775. It fought for Russia in the Russo-Turkish War of 1787–1792, including the sieges of Ochakiv and Izmail. In 1790 it was renamed the Black Sea Cossack Host, and in 1792 it was resettled in the Kuban.
