House of Saud

1727– · 18th century · Also known as Al Saud

The House of Saud is the ruling family of Saudi Arabia, descended from Muhammad bin Saud, who became emir of Diriyah in 1727. His alliance with the reformer Muhammad ibn Abd al-Wahhab in 1744 created the first Saudi state. After its destruction in 1818 the family founded the Emirate of Nejd, and Ibn Saud created the modern kingdom in 1932.
