1199–1260 · 13th century

Ibn al-Abbar was an Andalusi scholar, poet and historian from Valencia who served as secretary to its Muslim rulers and, after the city fell to Aragon in 1238, to the Hafsid sultans in Tunis. He wrote a famous poem appealing to Abu Zakariya Yahya for help for Valencia and biographical dictionaries of Andalusi scholars. He fell out with the Hafsid ruler al-Mustansir and was executed in 1260.
