Ibn Zamrak

1333–1393 · 14th century · Also known as Abu Abdallah Muhammad ibn Yusuf ibn Zamrak

Ibn Zamrak was a poet and vizier at the Nasrid court of Granada under Muhammad V. A pupil of Ibn al-Khatib, he succeeded his teacher as chief secretary and later turned against him. His poems are inscribed on the walls and fountains of the Alhambra, including the Court of the Lions, making the palace a setting for some of the last great Arabic poetry of al-Andalus.
