Ishpuini

r. c. 828–810 BCE · 9th century BCE

Ishpuini was king of Urartu in the late ninth century BCE, the son of Sarduri I. With his son Menua as co-ruler he introduced inscriptions in the Urartian language, organised the state cult of the god Haldi and extended Urartian influence to the sanctuary of Musasir, as recorded on the bilingual Kelishin stele. He laid the foundations for Urartu's expansion in the eighth century.
