Itchan Kala

Also known as Ichan Qal'a

Itchan Kala is the walled inner town of Khiva in Uzbekistan, the historic core of the city and the seat of the khans of Khiva. Its mud-brick walls enclose palaces, mosques, madrasas and minarets, most of them built in the 18th and 19th centuries under the Qungrat dynasty, including the unfinished Kalta Minor minaret. It survived the end of the khanate and was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1990.
