Khiva
Khiva is a city in the Khwarazm region of present-day Uzbekistan, long the capital of the Khanate of Khiva. Nader Shah of the Afsharid Empire campaigned against it in 1740 during his Central Asian expeditions. In the nineteenth century the Russian Empire reduced Khiva to a protectorate as part of its expansion into Central Asia.
