Jabiyah
Jabiyah was a site in the Golan region of southern Syria, near Nawa, that served as the main camp and court of the Ghassanid kings. After the Muslim conquest it became the chief military camp of the province, and around 638 the caliph Umar held a conference there to organise the administration of Syria. In 684 an assembly of tribes there chose Marwan I as Umayyad caliph.
