Jasenovac concentration camp

1941–1945 · 20th century

Jasenovac was the largest concentration and extermination camp of the Independent State of Croatia, run by the Ustaše regime from 1941 to 1945 on the Sava River. Tens of thousands of Serbs, Jews, Roma and Croatian anti-fascists were murdered there, many by brutal methods. It was destroyed by the Ustaše in April 1945 and is now a memorial site.
