Person
Jayapala
Jayapala was a king of the Hindu Shahi dynasty in the late 10th century, ruling from the Kabul valley to the Punjab. He lost a series of wars against the Ghaznavid rulers Sabuktigin and Mahmud of Ghazni, who defeated and captured him near Peshawar in 1001. Shamed by his defeat, he gave up the throne to his son Anandapala and burned himself on a pyre.
