Jean-Claude Margueron
Jean-Claude Margueron is a French archaeologist who directed the excavations at Mari in Syria from 1979 to 2004, succeeding André Parrot. His work reconstructed the origins of the city as a planned circular settlement of the early third millennium BCE, with flood defences and a canal linking it to the Euphrates. He also excavated at Emar on the Syrian Euphrates.
