Utu
Utu, called Shamash in Akkadian, was the Mesopotamian god of the sun, justice and truth. Each day he crossed the sky and saw all deeds, so he was invoked as judge and as protector of travellers; Hammurabi's law code shows him handing the king authority. His chief temples, both named E-babbar, were at Larsa and Sippar, and he was also worshipped in later Hatra and elsewhere in the Near East.
