Jemdet Nasr period

c. 3100–2900 BCE

The Jemdet Nasr period is an archaeological period of Mesopotamia, about 3100 to 2900 BCE, between the Uruk period and the Early Dynastic period. Named after a site near Kish where its distinctive painted pottery was first found, it saw the continued development of proto-cuneiform writing and of city institutions in southern Mesopotamia after the Uruk outposts in Syria and Iran had been abandoned.
