1273–1305 · 13th century

Joan I was Queen of Navarre and Countess of Champagne from 1274 until her death in 1305, the last of the house of Champagne. Her marriage in 1284 to the future Philip IV of France brought both lands under the French crown, and she founded the College of Navarre in Paris. Her three sons all became kings of France and Navarre.
