John George, Elector of Brandenburg
John George was Elector of Brandenburg from 1571 to 1598, a Hohenzollern prince and strict Lutheran. In 1571 he inherited both the electorate and the Neumark of his uncle John of Küstrin, reuniting the Brandenburg lands. A thrifty ruler, he paid down his father's debts, expelled the Jews from Brandenburg and avoided foreign wars.
