Joshimath
Joshimath is a hill town in Chamoli district of Uttarakhand, India, above the confluence of the Alaknanda and Dhauliganga rivers. Tradition holds that Adi Shankaracharya founded one of his four monasteries, Jyotirmath, there, and that it was the first seat of the Katyuri kings. It is the gateway to Badrinath, and since 2023 it has suffered serious land subsidence.
