Jungle Commando
The Jungle Commando was a Maroon guerrilla force led by Ronnie Brunswijk that fought the Surinamese National Army in the interior war of 1986 to 1992 against the military regime of Desi Bouterse. The fighting devastated Maroon villages in eastern Suriname, including Moiwana, and sent thousands of refugees into French Guiana. A peace accord in 1992 ended the conflict.
