Kaiseraugst

Also known as Castrum Rauracense

Kaiseraugst is a village in the canton of Aargau, Switzerland, on the Rhine east of Basel. It grew from the late Roman fortress of Castrum Rauracense, built around 300 beside the colony of Augusta Raurica to guard the Rhine crossing against the Alemanni. Parts of the fort's walls survive, and the site yielded the Kaiseraugst Treasure, a large hoard of fourth-century Roman silver.
