Kanara
Kanara, or Canara, is the coastal region of Karnataka, south-western India, between the Western Ghats and the Arabian Sea. Its ports, such as Mangalore, Bhatkal and Honnavar, traded pepper, rice and other goods with Arabia, the Persian Gulf and later the Portuguese. Under British rule it was divided into the districts of North Kanara and South Kanara.
