Kanthirava Narasaraja I

1615–1659 · 17th century

Kanthirava Narasaraja I (1615–1659) was the Wodeyar king of Mysore from 1638 to 1659. He defended his capital Srirangapatna against forces of the Bijapur Sultanate and extended the kingdom at the expense of neighbouring chiefs, making Mysore a significant regional power after the fall of Vijayanagara. He is credited with setting up a royal mint and issuing coins in his own name.
