Kaolack

Kaolack is a city in west-central Senegal on the Saloum river, capital of Kaolack Region. Founded near Kahone, the old capital of the kingdom of Saloum, it grew under French rule from the late 19th century into the country's main centre of the groundnut trade, served by rail and a river port. It is also an important religious centre of the Tijaniyya Sufi order.
