Kapp Putsch

1920 · 20th century

The Kapp Putsch was an attempted coup against the Weimar Republic in March 1920, led by Wolfgang Kapp and General Walther von Lüttwitz with Freikorps troops due to be disbanded under the Treaty of Versailles. The rebels occupied Berlin and the government fled, but most of the army stood aside and a general strike paralysed the country. The putsch collapsed after four days.
