Kayes
Kayes is a city in western Mali on the Senegal River, capital of the Kayes Region. Developed by the French as a river port and railhead from the 1880s, it was the capital of the colony of French Sudan until the seat moved to Bamako in 1908. The Kayes–Bamako railway, later joined to the line from Dakar, linked the Senegal and Niger valleys.
