Senegal River
The Senegal River flows from the Guinea highlands to the Atlantic, forming much of the border between modern Senegal and Mauritania. Its valley was an important agricultural and trading zone at the southern edge of the Sahara. The Almoravid Empire and Mali Empire profiles refer to it in describing the movements and territories of these states.
