Keflavík

Keflavík is a town on the Reykjanes peninsula in south-western Iceland, now part of the municipality of Reykjanesbær. Its airport, Iceland's main international gateway, began as a US military airfield in the Second World War. Under a defence agreement of 1951 the United States ran a naval air station there for Iceland, a NATO member without an army, until the base closed in 2006.
