Kholodny Yar
Kholodny Yar is a forested area of ravines near Chyhyryn in central Ukraine, around the Motronynskyi Monastery. It is linked in Ukrainian memory with the Cossack Hetmanate and the haidamaka rising of 1768. From 1919 to 1922 local partisans there held a self-governing district against both White and Bolshevik forces, later celebrated in Yuri Horlis-Horsky's memoir of the same name.
