Kihapiʻilani
Kihapiʻilani was ruler of Maui in the 16th century, a son of Piʻilani. With the help of ʻUmi-a-Līloa of the island of Hawaiʻi he overthrew his elder brother Lono-a-Piʻilani and took power. Tradition credits him with the paved trail, later called the King's Highway, that circled much of Maui, and with work on the great temple platform Piʻilanihale.
