Kingdom of Zimbabwe

The Kingdom of Zimbabwe was the state centred on Great Zimbabwe on the Zimbabwe plateau, which flourished from about the twelfth to the fifteenth century. Its stone enclosures and gold trade with the Swahili coast made it a major southern African power. Its decline was followed by the rise of the Mutapa Empire, which inherited much of its political and commercial tradition.
