Kingisepp
Kingisepp is a town in Leningrad Oblast, Russia, on the Luga River. It began as Yam, a stone fortress built by Novgorod in 1384 to guard its north-western frontier. Sweden held it, as Jama, in 1581–1590 and from 1612 until Russia retook it in 1703 during the Great Northern War. It was renamed Yamburg in the 18th century and Kingisepp in 1922.
