Koporye

Koporye is a village in Leningrad Oblast, Russia, known for its medieval fortress. The Teutonic Knights first built a fort there in 1240, and Novgorod built the stone fortress in the late 13th century to defend its lands on the Gulf of Finland. Sweden held it during the Livonian War and from 1617 to 1703, when Russian forces took it in the Great Northern War.
