Kiyohara clan
The Kiyohara were a warrior family of Dewa province in northern Japan. They helped the Minamoto defeat the Abe clan in the Former Nine Years' War of 1051 to 1062 and took over the Abe lands in Mutsu. Quarrels within the family led to the Later Three Years' War of 1083 to 1087, in which Minamoto no Yoshiie and Kiyohara Kiyohira destroyed their rivals; Kiyohira then took the name Fujiwara and founded the Northern Fujiwara.
