Kołbacz Abbey

1173–1535 · 12th century · Also known as Kolbatz Abbey

Kołbacz Abbey was a Cistercian monastery near Szczecin in Pomerania, founded in 1173 by monks from Esrum in Denmark at the invitation of the Pomeranian noble Wartislaw Świętoborzyc. It became one of the richest monasteries of the duchy and organised German settlement and farming on its lands. It was dissolved during the Reformation in 1535, and parts of its church survive.
