Szczecin
Szczecin (German: Stettin) is a port city in north-western Poland on the lower Oder, near the Baltic. A Slavic stronghold and trading centre, it became the residence of the Griffin dukes of Pomerania and a Hanseatic town. Swedish from 1648 and Prussian from 1720, it grew into Berlin's main seaport and passed to Poland in 1945.
