House of Griffins
The House of Griffin was the dynasty that ruled the Duchy of Pomerania from the 12th century until 1637. Its first historically attested member was Wartislaw I, who accepted Christianity in the 1120s. Of Slavic origin but German in culture by the late Middle Ages, the family often divided its lands into lines such as Pomerania-Stettin and Pomerania-Wolgast, and it died out with Bogislaw XIV in 1637.
