Kōzuke Province
Kōzuke Province was an old province of Japan in the northern Kanto region, now Gunma Prefecture. In the Sengoku period it was contested by the Uesugi, Takeda and Later Hōjō, and under the Tokugawa it was divided among several domains, including Maebashi and Takasaki. Its silk industry, later symbolised by the Tomioka Silk Mill of 1872, made it important in Japan's modernisation.
