Kōfu

Also known as Kofu

Kōfu is the capital of Yamanashi Prefecture, Japan, in a basin west of Tokyo. It grew from 1519 around the Tsutsujigasaki residence of the Takeda clan, rulers of Kai Province. In the Edo period it was a castle town, under direct shogunate rule for much of the time, and it is now a centre of fruit growing and wine production.
