Kru people
The Kru are a West African people of the coast of south-eastern Liberia and south-western Côte d'Ivoire, speaking Kru languages. From the 18th century they became renowned as sailors and dock workers, serving on European ships along the West African coast and settling in ports as far as Freetown and Lagos. In Liberia they were among the indigenous peoples long excluded from power by the Americo-Liberian settler elite.
