Kuria (Kiribati)

Kuria is an atoll of two islands in the central Gilbert Islands of Kiribati, west of Aranuka and Abemama. In the 19th century Tem Baiteke of Abemama conquered it with firearms acquired from traders, and it remained part of the Abemama kingdom until Britain declared a protectorate over the Gilbert Islands in 1892.
