Kurmanbek Bakiyev
Kurmanbek Bakiyev was President of Kyrgyzstan from 2005 to 2010. A former prime minister, he came to power after the Tulip Revolution overthrew Askar Akayev. His rule became increasingly authoritarian and was marked by accusations of corruption and nepotism. Mass protests in April 2010, in which dozens were killed, forced him to flee, and he went into exile in Belarus.
